CBC'S SEARCHLIGHT NAMES THE TOP 10 BEST NEW ARTISTS IN CANADA

Dan Boeckner, Jenn Grant and Saukrates have narrowed the   r   egional 23 down to the top 10 with the help of CBC Music fans and CBC Radio One listeners

 

CBCMusic.ca and CBC Radio One are on the hunt for Canada’s best new artist, joining forces with Yamaha Canada Music Ltd. to bring back the listeners’ choice music competition,  SEARCHLIGHT.

 

  Since the polls opened, thousands of emerging musical acts from across Canada have been vying for the title of Canada’s Best New Artist. The winning act will receive $20,000 in gear from Yamaha Canada Music, and a spot on the   CBCMusic.ca Festival at TD’s Echo Beach in Toronto on May 23, 2015.

 

  CBCMusic.ca   called on judges Dan Boeckner, Jenn Grant and Saukrates to narrow the top 23 regional submissions down to the top 10, with five acts chosen by the celebrity judges, and the remaining five acts selected by CBC Radio One listeners and   CBCMusic.ca fans. The winner of Searchlight will be announced first on CBC Radio One’s q on   Friday, May 15, followed by CBC Music and CBC Radio 2.

 
  The top 10 contenders are   :

  The Fall Line, “Original Sin” - Montreal

  Kellie Loder, “On This Drive” - St John’s

  Lost Cousins, “Drift” - Ottawa

  Devan and Khalid, “No Ribbons” - Toronto

  Orange O’Clock, “Can’t Fight the Feeling” - Quebec City

  Scary Bear Soundtrack, “Fault Lines” - Nunavut

  Shy Sharity, “Sparkles” - Vancouver

  Ivory Hours, “I Won’t” - Windsor

  Hillsburn, “Farther in the Fire” - Halifax

  Mika-Dawn, “Oil Man” - Winnipeg

 
  Tune in to q on Tuesday, May 12 to hear the judges reveal the final four contestants, and then again on Friday, May 15,   to hear who is crowned the winner for 2015’sSEARCHLIGHTcompetition.
