SHAD, NEW HOST OF CBC RADIO ONE'S Q, TO TAKE THE STAGE AT THE CBCMUSIC.CA FESTIVAL AT ECHO BEACH

                Shad will join Patrick Watson, Bahamas, Joel Plaskett Emergency, Coeur de pirate, The Strumbellas, Lindi Ortega, Jenn Grant, Fred Penner, Tanika         Charles, Choir! Choir! Choir!, and CBCMusic.ca’s Searchlight winner onstage

 
  CBCMusic.ca is bringing the CBCMusic.ca Festival back to Toronto on Saturday, May 23rd at TD Echo Beach with   Shad, Juno Award-winning rapper and new host of CBC Radio One’s Q, to kick off the day with a performance.

  The critically acclaimed hip-hop artist is known for his humour, honesty and intelligence. Born in Kenya to Rwandan parents, he was raised in London,   Ontario. Shad holds a business degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and a master’s degree in liberal studies from Simon Fraser University. His music has   made him a critical favourite and has garnered nods from the Juno Awards and Polaris Music Prize.

  CBCMusic.ca   is proud to have Shad join this special CBC event showcasing an exceptional, diverse, 100% Canadian lineup, featuring some of the hottest musical acts from   across the country, including Patrick Watson, Bahamas, Joel Plaskett Emergency, Coeur de pirate, The Strumbellas, Lindi Ortega, Jenn Grant, Fred Penner,   Tanika Charles, Choir! Choir! Choir!, CBCMusic.ca’s Searchlight winner and more.

  The CBCMusic.ca Festival will be broadcast live on both CBC Radio One and CBC Radio 2 on Saturday, May 23rd from Toronto’s Echo Beach. The   festival will broadcast live to air on CBC Radio One from 9 -11 p.m. and re-broadcast on Radio 2 from 10 p.m. - midnight. CBC-TV will also air a one hour   special of the CBCMusic.ca Festival, date and time to be confirmed.

  Tickets for the CBCMusic.ca Festival are already on sale. General admission is $39.50 (plus FMF and service charges), free for kids 12 and   under. Tickets are available at LiveNation.com, all Ticketmaster outlets and by phone at 1-855-985-5000.   The show is suitable for all ages.

  In addition to the music performances, the CBCMusic.ca Festival will also highlight some of CBC Music and CBC Radio’s outstanding talent. Throughout the day there will appearances by CBC Toronto personalities Matt Galloway, Dwight Drummond andGill Deacon, as well as CBC Music and CBC Radio 2 personalities Rich Terfry, Tom PowerTalia Schlanger and more.

  The Debaters   —Now in its 9th season on CBC Radio One, The Debaters is the hit show where comics go toe-to-toe in a battle of laughs and logic. Hosted   by award-winning comedian Steve Patterson, The Debaters is a combustible mix of sharply crafted comedic rants and hilarious ad libs. The   engaging format is part stand-up, part quiz show and part comedy competition as the live audience picks the winner. In a show developed specifically for   the CBC.ca Music Festival, The Debaters will take on the whole notion of live music by debating “Whereas there are too many distractions,   be it resolved Live Music Sucks!” The man willing to debate in favourof that resolution in front of fans of live music (and surrounded by a lot of   musicians) is former host of MTV Live, Graham Chittenden.

  Kids’ CBC   —Kids’ CBC brings crafts and activities with entertainment to keep the kids entertained, including Mamma Yamma and lots of other surprises.

  Stuart McLean   —Stuart McLean will be taking your musical requests: if you want to hear a song, Stuart McLean wants to hear why. Find The Vinyl Cafe in   their tent at the CBCMusic.ca festival and tell Stuart a story about the song you want him to play on The Vinyl Cafe. The   show be recording the interviews and they will air nationally on The Vinyl Cafe.

  CBC Documentaries   — Looking to get a deeper perspective into the music you love? The documentary channel will be presenting insightful music   documentaries from 7-10 p.m.
