CBC NEWS WINS BIG AT THE CANADIAN SCREEN AWARDS OPENING NIGHT GALA


CBC received 12 awards tonight at the first of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television’s Canadian Screen Awards galas. CBC News won big this evening, earning five awards across national and local programming. THE NATIONAL, CBC’s flagship nightly news program anchored by chief correspondent Peter Mansbridge, won two awards for its coverage of the Boston Marathon bombing and the Syrian conflict. CBC News’ the fifth estate, Canada’s premier documentary investigative program, picked up another two awards.

CBC Television is one of the few Canadian networks dedicated to creating original documentary programming that informs and enlightens Canadians, and explores the issues of our time. As such, CBC’s flagship documentary series DOC ZONE picked up three awards for Syria: Behind Enemy Lines and The War of 1812: Been There, Won That, while documentary Channel‘s I am Not a Rock Star scored an additional two awards.

CBC Television’s quality programming and remarkable talent is evident from their 11 wins tonight. CBC also earned a Digital Media award for CBC Music’s The Beetle Roadtrip Sessions. CBC programs, talent and crew were all nominated in categories across the board for Canada’s most prestigious television, film and digital awards.
