HAVE HOTEL CHAINS CLEANED UP THEIR ACT? CBC NEWS' MARKETPLACE'S THE DIRT ON HOTELS IS BACK

THE DIRT ON HOTELS: WE’RE BACK AIRS FRIDAY, OCT. 18 AT 8 P.M. (8:30 NT) ON CBC-TV

MARKETPLACE is checking back in to six of Canada’s largest hotel chains, testing to see if they have cleaned up their act after we revealed The Dirt on Hotels last year. Are the stains on the sheets and walls gone? Are the bathrooms and ice machines free of bacteria?

After MARKETPLACE uncovered what’s really between the sheets and hiding in Canada’s seemingly clean rooms last year, hotel chains promised to improve their cleaning practices. But did they? Despite promises to address the shocking conditions, bedroom surprises still lurk in some of Canada’s most popular hotels.

The Dirt on Hotels: We’re Back airs Friday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC-TV.

In The Dirt on Hotels: We’re Back, a MARKETPLACE viewer goes undercover to the front desk - to see what hotels tell customers and how clean they claim to be - while Erica Johnson and one of Canada’s top microbiologists go undercover, to put those claims to the test. They uncover bodily fluids and bacteria concealed in places that will make you shriek. While some things have gotten better, they still find streaks on walls and other grimy discoveries. It’s an industry-wide problem, and MARKETPLACE is keeping Canadian hotel companies honest.

MARKETPLACE airs Fridays at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC Television and Saturdays at 9:30 p.m. ET and Sundays at 5:30 p.m. ET on CBC News Network.
