ARE YOU PAYING TOO MUCH AT THE VET? PET OWNERS ARE BARKING MAD AS CBC'S MARKETPLACE LAUNCHES ITS 41ST SEASON

BARKING MAD AIRS FRIDAY, OCT. 4 AT 8 P.M. (8:30 NT) ON CBC-TV

To launch the 41st season of MARKETPLACE, Erica Johnson reveals how pet owners may be paying hundreds of dollars for questionable treatments and procedures at the vet. On hidden camera, MARKETPLACE goes undercover with Marshall, a healthy bulldog, to ten veterinarians. The vets prescribe vaccines he doesn’t need, testing that’s unnecessary, expensive medications and pet food, as well as differing diagnoses.

Barking Mad airs on MARKETPLACE, Friday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC-TV.

MARKETPLACE talks to health and nutrition experts, as well as disgruntled pet owners, and takes their concerns to the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. With 14 million pets in Canada and a 90 percent jump in household vet care spending over the last 12 years, no wonder pet owners facing soaring vet bills are Barking Mad.

During the broadcast of Barking Mad, MARKETPLACE will conduct an online poll at
cbc.ca/marketplace, plus viewers can join the investigation by uploading their vet bills to compare prices of common procedures across the country through an interactive online map. Results will be broadcast on MARKETPLACE‘s Oct. 11 episode.

MARKETPLACE airs Fridays at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC Television and Saturdays at 9:30 p.m. ET and Sundays at 5:30 p.m. ET on CBC News Network.
