THE HONOURABLE DAVID C. ONLEY GUEST STARS AS SIR OLIVER MOWAT ON AN ALL-NEW EPISODE OF MURDOCH MYST

Filmed on-location at Queen’s Park, marking the first time in over a decade a television production has been granted access to the historic Toronto landmark

The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, The Honourable David C. Onley, makes a special guest appearance as Sir Oliver Mowat, Ontario’s eighth Lieutenant Governor, on CBC’s critically acclaimed period crime-drama, MURDOCH MYSTERIES, Monday, February 25 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC-TV. Filmed on-location at Queen’s Park in July 2012, MURDOCH MYSTERIES is the first television production to be granted access to the historic landmark in over a decade. The episode, “The Ghost of Queen’s Park,” originated from Onley, based on the rich history of ghost stories associated with the building. His Honour then worked with the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, The Honourable Dave Levac MPP (Brant), to arrange for unprecedented access to the building for the MURDOCH MYSTERIES cast and production crew.

“Appearing as Sir Oliver Mowat and acting with members of the Murdoch Mysteries cast was a distinct honour, said Lieutenant Governor Onley. “Knowing that the scenes were shot in the same halls that Mowat actually walked just added to what was already an amazing experience.”

Set in Toronto during the early 1900s, the homegrown series follows Detective Murdoch as he uses unusual forensic techniques for the time to solve some of the city’s most gruesome murders. In “The Ghost of Queen’s Park,” Murdoch investigates the murder of an MPP who is rumored to have been killed by a vengeful ghost in Queen’s Park. After learning of the victim’s political and business connections, Murdoch dismisses the suggestions propagated by Constable Crabtree (Jonny Harris) about an otherworldly motive for the killing. But despite Murdoch’s directive to focus on the facts, Crabtree launches his own investigation into the building’s alleged haunting and paranormal activity. His Honour David C. Onley is featured as Sir Oliver Mowat, who served as Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1897 to 1903.

MURDOCH MYSTERIES stars Yannick Bisson as William Murdoch, Jonny Harris as Constable George Crabtree, Georgina Reilly as Dr. Emily Grace and Hélène Joy as pathologist-turned-psychiatrist Dr. Julia Ogden.

Watch brand new episodes of MURDOCH MYSTERIES Season 6, Mondays at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC-TV.
