GEORGE STROUMBOULOPOULOS SITS DOWN WITH THE LEGENDARY OPRAH WINFREY IN AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

The special episode of GEORGE STROUMBOULOPOULOS TONIGHT airs
Wednesday, January 30 at 7 PM on CBC Television

Selected to join Oprah Winfrey on her three-city Canadian tour, host George Stroumboulopoulos was chosen to interview the media icon one-on-one, at each of her sold-out shows. As part of the ‘An Evening with Oprah’ events in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver, George interviewed Oprah on stage in front of live audiences of fifteen thousand people each night. Watch a portion of George’s exclusive interview with Oprah from her Vancouver show in a special episode of GEORGE STROUMBOULOPOULOS TONIGHT, January 30 at 7 p.m. (7:30 NT) and 11:00 p.m. (11:30 NT) on CBC Television.

George was honoured to be part of the tour, telling CBC Edmonton that, “Interviewing an interviewer is the best spot to be in.” In these candid and revealing live interviews, George and Oprah talk about Lance Armstrong, controversy over the Obama Inauguration and about struggles with OWN. George remarks, “so much of what Oprah has done with her empire is to empower people and I’ve been in this business long enough to know when you make it about other people it’s a way better world.”

The entrepreneurs and producers behind Oprah’s tour, Christian Darbyshire and partner Andy McCreath of Calgary-based tinePublic Inc., stated that the choice was easy for them, as they consider Stroumboulopoulos to be one of the best interviewers in Canada. “We thought that bringing in George would kind of give it a bit of a more hip, younger feel and we just love the way he does his interview style,” said Darbyshire.

GEORGE STROUMBOULOPOULOS TONIGHT airs Monday through Friday at 7 p.m. (7:30 NT), with an encore airing at 11:30 p.m. (12:00 NT). The show is taped daily in front of a live studio audience at the CBC Headquarters in Toronto. Tania Natscheff is Executive Producer. George Stroumboulopoulos is Co-Executive Producer and Host.
