It’s been nearly a year since the Costa Concordia cruise ship struck a rock and sank off the coast of Italy, leaving 32 passengers and crew dead. The captain’s been charged with manslaughter, and now the biggest salvage operation in history—of the largest Italian ship ever built—is under way. And this Friday on the fifth estate, watch the world exclusive, first in-depth television interview with Captain Francesco Schettino, as he tells his version of the story of what happened that fateful night. Bob McKeown sheds new light on the disaster, with black box recordings and never-before-made-public coast guard radio communications, detailing events unfolding on the doomed ship before, during and after the crash.
