CBC-TV, CBCSPORTS.CA AND BOLD CELEBRATE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF CALGARY STAMPEDE WITH EXCLUSIVE DAILY COVERAGE FROM JULY 6 TO 15 INCLUDING SPECIAL SHOW STAMPEDE NIGHT IN CANADA

CBC is your home to the   “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth” as Ron MacLean dons his Stetson for special   show on opening and closing Saturdays along with all the championship action   from Showdown Sunday

Calgary will be buzzing with festival-like atmosphere and   celebrations

For 100 years, the Calgary   Stampede has been Canada’s annual celebration of the West. As a longtime   broadcast partner, CBC is marking the Calgary Stampede’s centennial by bringing   the event to Canadians as never before, with exclusive comprehensive coverage of   the milestone year across CBC-TV, CBCSports.ca and bold from July 6 to   July 15.

CBC’s extensive multiplatform   broadcast plan continues the proud Canadian tradition of connecting viewers   across the country with their inner cowboy or cowgirl by bringing the Calgary   Stampede into their homes. Live chats, blogs and social media integration will   further connect CBC with a passionate world-wide audience.

In addition to all the exciting   action broadcast across the CBC platforms, Calgarians, and those traveling to   take in the action, will be treated to a lively line-up of events and   celebrations starting with CBC’s Calgary Stampede Breakfast on July 5 from 7:00   -9:00 a.m. Hosted by CBC Calgary at their Broadcast Centre, this annual free   breakfast event celebrates cowboy culture and heritage. The Breakfast has many   surprises in store including live music, dancing, western-style performers,  special guests and contest opportunities all broadcast live on The Calgary   Eyeopener on CBC Radio One and portions aired on CBC TV news.

Join Kids’ CBC as the Caboose   heads west to the Calgary Stampede. From July 7 to the 13, Kids’ CBC will be   airing segments featuring the people, places and activities that kids (and   parents) can see and do at the Stampede. Plus, each morning during the   Stampede, Kids’ CBC will air a unique Western Heritage segment, showcasing parts   of the Stampede that make the west what it is today. Meet a 6 year-old   horse-show contestant, gigantic horses or smart dogs and learn the history of   the Calgary Stampede. For those in Calgary, join Patty, Sid and Mamma Yamma on   the Stampede grounds forthree live shows, Saturday July 7 on the Coca Cola   stage.

In honour of this important   anniversary, CBC-TV will offer Canadians an in-depth look at the history of the   Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth as well as features on the talented men and women   who dedicate their lives to the rodeo. Along with a daily wrap-up show, a new   Saturday night tradition takes to the airwaves on July 7 and 14. Stampede   Night in Canada features live Rangeland Derby coverage and showcases the   rich history of the Calgary Stampede and the world of professional   rodeo.

In addition, a special Showdown Sunday broadcast on July 15 hosted by Ron MacLean will   have live coverage as champions are crowned in six major events: saddle bronc,  bareback, bull riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing. With   more than $1 million to be won throughout the day, Showdown Sunday is known as   “rodeo’s richest afternoon.”

CBC’s Scott Oake hosts the Calgary Stampede Daily Wrap Up as well as Rangeland   Derby coverage alongside veteran analyst and four-time Calgary Stampede   champion, Tom Glass. Also returning to CBC’s Calgary Stampede broadcast team is   Doug Dirks, as the play-by-play voice for coverage of Rodeo   events.

The Stampede on CBC kicks off   Friday, July 6 at 11 a.m. ET/9 a.m. MT on CBCSports.ca and bold, and for   Southern Alberta viewers on CBC-TV, with live coverage of the opening Calgary   Stampede Parade - a two-and-half-hour celebration of the event and its special   place in the hearts of Calgarians. A special national encore presentation will   air on CBC-TV on Saturday, July 7 at 2 p.m. ET/12 p.m. MT. Tune in for a special   appearance from CBC’s Dragons during the broadcast.
