ROCKS THE RATINGS AND BOOSTS PRODUCTION INDUSTRY IN NEWFOUNDLAND & LABRADOR CBC-TV's REPUBLIC OF DOYLE POSTS BEST SEASON

The raucous adventures of Canada’s   swaggering sleuth continued to gain new fans this season as CBC-TV’s REPUBLIC   OF DOYLE drew its biggest audience yet.

According to the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement (BBM), REPUBLIC OF DOYLE finished its third season with an average total   audience of almost 1.2 million viewers - its highest-rated season, up 18 per   cent over last year. And for the first time, all 13   episodes garnered over 1 million viewers each.

Congratulations to the cast and crew of the   show, whose hard work was rewarded by record-breaking viewership by   Canadians’ said Tom Hastings, CBC Creative Head, Drama, Commissioned and   Scripted Programming. “We’re very proud of REPUBLIC OF DOYLE‘s continuing   success.”

During the course of the 2011-12 season, almost 8.8   million viewers tuned in to some part of the program, representing 26 per cent   of the population or more than one in four Canadians.

The season premiere, featuring a guest star appearance by   Oscar® winner Russell Crowe, kick-started the momentum, drawing an   audience of 1.55 million viewers, a 22 per cent jump over the Season Two opener.

REPUBLIC OF DOYLE’s renewal for a fourth season on   CBC-TV is good news for the television production industry in Newfoundland &  Labrador. It is the largest original TV or film production ever mounted in the   province, generating about $22 million per season in production activity and   sustaining 110 full-time jobs.

REPUBLIC OF DOYLE stars Allan Hawco as the charming   and irreverent detective who struggles daily to navigate the complications of   running the family P.I. business while keeping his very volatile private life in   check.

Other cast members include: colleague and father Malachy   Doyle (Sean McGinley); colleague (and defacto stepmother) Rose Miller (Lynda   Boyd); vandal turned P.I. apprentice Des Courtney (Mark O’Brien); enterprising   niece Tinny (Marthe Bernard) and charming Sergeant Leslie Bennett (Krystin   Pellerin).

REPUBLIC OF DOYLE is produced by Take the Shot   Productions.
