New 5 pm newscast has more in-depth analysis of top stories and live interviews in studio
Andrew Chang, CBC News Vancouver’s new host at 5 & 6, will begin his on-air role September 1st. Chang joined the award-winning team at CBC Vancouver earlier this summer and has been working through editorial planning in the integrated, multiplatform environment.
“We’re approaching the news in a different way,” says Chang. “We know the audience is able to get the news throughout the day online and on their mobile devices. When the viewer comes to television, we want to give them more depth and context to the top stories of the day and more live interviews in studio with the main players in the story. People are looking for more than just the headlines. They want the context around why things happened and most importantly what it means for them.”
CBC British Columbia has been strengthening all its media platforms to meet the growing and changing needs of their audience. Continuous updates on local stories are posted on the web throughout the day, including a live blog where reporters tweet from the field. The mobile CBC news app is customizable specifically for B.C. and is easy to navigate for the most current local content. CBC British Columbia also has a strong video on demand feature with more than 180,000 views per month.
“CBC British Columbia has been adapting to the changes to the industry and our audience needs aggressively over the last few years,” says Johnny Michel, senior managing director, CBC British Columbia and Alberta. “Adding Andrew to the team will take our news content to the next level. His strong skills in journalism, specifically in interviewing and analysis, will give our audiences a different point of view on the news of the day.”
Chang will host CBC News Vancouver at 5 & 6 which will continue to bring the best in investigative and original journalism CBC News Vancouver is known for.
CBC News Vancouver airs weeknights at 5, 6 and 11 pm, Saturdays at 10:30 pm and Sundays at 11 pm on CBC TV. CBC News Vancouver can also be seen on CHEK TV 7 nights a week at 6 pm.
