SANDRA KLEINFELD TAKES ON NEW LEADERSHIP ROLE IN DOCUMENTARY PROGRAMMING AT CBC

On Monday, May 2, Sandra Kleinfeld will take on the role of Senior Director of Documentary at CBC. In this new position, Kleinfeld will lead CBC’s documentary content team as they continue to bring best-in-class documentary storytelling to Canadian audiences.

“Sandra’s creative expertise and leadership experience will be of great value in this new role”, says Jennifer Dettman, Executive director, Unscripted content, English Services. “She has a strong reputation in the independent production community, and will build on those relationships to further our success and commitment to documentary storytelling on CBC.”

“It’s such an exciting time for documentaries right now; there is a real hunger for authentic revealing stories told in compelling and cinematic narratives”, says Kleinfeld. “CBC has so much great doc content. I’m thrilled to be working with our independent producers and directors, and the CBC team at Firsthand, The Nature of Things and Digital Shorts.”

Kleinfeld’s career as a broadcast executive encompasses three conventional, three analog and two digital specialty channels. Most recently, as Director of development for CBC Unscripted content, she led development and production of formats and original series with independent and in-house producers of factual entertainment, arts and documentaries. At Canwest Global TV, she oversaw social issue documentaries for the inaugural year of Global Currents. With Alliance Atlantis, she helped launch Discovery Health Channel Canada, including docuseries and documentaries for Life Network and National Geographic Channel Canada. Before that, Kleinfeld held various production roles on CBC’s the fifth estate and The Health Show, CTV’s W-5 and BNN’s The Bottom Line.

Kleinfeld will report directly to Jennifer Dettman and reporting to Kleinfeld are the commissioners for CBC documentary strands Firsthand, The Nature of Things and Digital Shorts.
