Discounted early bird tickets go on sale today for the 2016 Massey Lectures in Winnipeg, Vancouver, Saskatoon, Halifax and Toronto
 

For a limited period of one week (July 28-Aug 4), Canadians can get a five dollar discount on regular price tickets at all venues with the promo code "CBCRadio". Tickets are available at full price beginning August 5. This year's five Massey Lectures - The Return of History: Conflict, Migration, and Geopolitics in the 21st Century - will be presented by Jennifer Welsh, former United Nations Secretary-General's Special Adviser on the Responsibility to Protect.

Terrorism, war, inequality and mass migration are themes that have permeated the news of late. Jennifer Welsh's 2016 Massey Lectures explore the why's and the what-now's in the failure of liberal democracy. The five individual lectures will be presented in a cross-Canada tour, beginning in Winnipeg on September 21. The lectures will also travel to Vancouver, Saskatoon, Halifax and Toronto. The CBC Massey Lectures are recorded in front of a live audience. The Return of History: Conflict, Migration, and Geopolitics in the 21st Century, the five lectures in the 2016 Massey Lectures series will be broadcast on CBC Radio One's Ideas the week of Oct 31-Nov 4, 2016 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT). CBC Radio One's program of contemporary thought, Ideas is a wide-ranging program that explores how ideas shape every aspect of our lives.
 
The book of The Return of History: Conflict, Migration, and Geopolitics in the 21st Century will be released by House of Anansi Press on September 17, 2016.
 
Jennifer Welsh is Professor and Chair in International Relations at the European University Institute in Florence (Italy) and a Fellow of Somerville College, University of Oxford. From 2013 until 2016, she was the Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary General on the Responsibility to Protect. She was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, and is of Metis descent.
