CBC OPENS DOORS FOR 30th ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE AND FOOD BANK DAY

Local and network stars meet the public, raise funds for B.C. Food Banks on December 2nd

VANCOUVER - A holiday tradition, CBC/Radio-Canada’s Open House and Food Bank Day returns to the CBC Vancouver Broadcast Centre on December 2, 2016. Now in its 30th year, the day-long festivities include live broadcasts, newsroom tours and meet and greet sessions with local and national hosts. Peter Mansbridge, chief correspondent of The National, CBC Vancouver’s Andrew Chang, Johanna Wagstaffe, Rick Cluff, Gloria Macarenko and Stephen Quinn, stars from Kim’s Convenience and more will be on-hand to help raise funds for the Food Banks of B.C.

“Opening our doors each December has become a tradition that both our audiences and staff have come to look forward to,” says Johnny Michel, senior managing director, CBC British Columbia and Alberta. “It’s wonderful to witness the generosity of the public in their donations and the connection they feel to CBC when they get to tour the studios and meet our hosts. A great way to kick off the holiday season.”

In the past several years alone, Open House and Food Bank Day has raised over $3 million in funds for B.C. Food Banks. This year, CBC Vancouver hopes to break records by encouraging further donations by offering limited edition CBC Holiday sweaters ($250.00 donation) and socks ($40.00 donation) on-site while quantities last.

Thousands of visitors attend the one-day event at CBC Vancouver’s Broadcast Centre at 700 Hamilton Street each year. The December 2 schedule includes:
