CBC Sports to provide over 48 hours of coverage beginning Wednesday, March 29
The top figure skaters in the world are in Helsinki, Finland for the 2017 ISU World Figure Skating Championships and CBC Sports has exclusive comprehensive multiplatform coverage from March 29 – April 2.
Host Scott Russell will anchor CBC Sports’ primetime and weekend coverage from Helsinki starting at 8pm on Wednesday, March 29 with Andi Petrillo, Kurt Browning, Carol Lane and David Pelletier providing analysis, insights and commentary. Brenda Irving, rink side reporter, joins Scott Russell in Helsinki with interviews and reactions from the skaters and their coaches.

CBC Sports will provide live streaming coverage of every moment from the 2017 ISU World Figure Skating Championships at cbcsports.ca and via the CBC Sports app for iOS and Android devices, while TV coverage will be anchored within Road To The Olympic Games. This is the last World Championship competition to be contested before the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 take place in less than a year.
Canada is sending a strong team to contend for the top of the podium with two men and women each in the single events and three teams each for Ice Dance and Pairs competitions.
Kaetlyn Osmond set a national points record in winning her third National title and now looks to try and break Russia’s domination in women’s competition. She is joined by Gabrielle Daleman, a fierce competitor who should not be discounted. She recently finished second at the Four Continents Championships, the Olympic test event for figure skating that took place in PyeongChang, South Korea.
In the Pairs’ discipline, Canada will have three teams looking to compete including the return of Julianne Séguin and Charlie Bilodeau. They started the season with a second place finish at Skate America before being sidelined due to injury. Two-time and defending world champions Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford along with Lubov Ilyushechkina and Dylan Moscovitch will also be there.
On the men’s side, Patrick Chan and Kevin Reynolds will wear the maple leaf. Chan is looking to regain form and world presence after securing his record ninth National title. It will be tightly contested as both two-time and reigning World Champion Javier Fernandez (ESP) and Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu, 2014 World Champion, are in attendance and will want to send a strong message before the Olympic Winter Games. Both are coached by Canadian Brian Orser, the 1987 World Champion and two-time Olympic Silver medallist.
Finally, in Ice Dance, Canada is sending three strong teams, led by Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir who are undefeated since returning to competition this season. In their return after a two-year retirement, they have seemed unstoppable, remaining perfect in the season heading into this competition. Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje along with Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier also represent Canada in Helsinki.
