CBC BOOKS, CBC's website devoted to books and authors, readers and writers, together with its partners the Canada Council for the Arts, Air Canada enRoute magazine and Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, today announced the finalists for the 2017 CBC Short Story Prize.
They are:
- Alix Hawley of Kelowna, British Columbia for Witching
- Kasia Juno of Montreal, Quebec for The Peninsula of Happiness
- Krzysztof J. Pelc of Montreal, Quebec for The Duolect
- Jasmina Odor of Edmonton, Alberta for Everyone Has Come
- Meg Todd of Vancouver, British Columbia for Warrior
Their stories were selected from more than 1800 received from across the country. As of today, the public can read them all on CBCBooks.ca.
The jurors for this year’s CBC Short Story Prize are Jen Sookfong Lee, Shyam Selvadurai and Marina Endicott. The winner of this year’s prize will be announced on April 19, 2017.
In addition to a cash prize of $6000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Grand Prize winner will receive a ten-day writing residency at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and will be published in Air Canada enRoute magazine as well as on the CBC Books website. The four other finalists will each receive $1000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and will be published on the CBC Books website.
