CBC LAUNCHES DAILY NEWS PODCAST, FRONT BURNER

CBC today announced the launch of CBC NEWS: FRONT BURNER, an original daily news podcast hosted and produced by award-winning investigative journalist Jayme Poisson. A joint project between CBC News and CBC Podcasts, the new podcast will be available to download daily Monday to Friday at 6 a.m. ET, providing listeners with a shortcut to a deeper understanding of the news of the day, from a distinctly Canadian perspective.  The first episode is now available for download on the CBC Radio app, Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts.

“Jayme and Front Burner will build on CBC’s success as Canada’s leading podcaster to provide focus and depth to the stories shaping our country and the world each day, asking questions from a Canadian point of view to better inform and connect listeners across the country,” said Jennifer McGuire, General Manager and Editor-in-Chief, CBC News. "In Jayme, we found a strong journalist with a conversational tone, an open mind and a hunger to deliver original stories.

“With a daily podcast we have the space for a more nuanced, detailed conversation,” said Poisson. “We will look at the questions and subtleties lying beneath the headlines and explore the big stories of the day with curiosity and original reporting.”

Prior to hosting FRONT BURNER, Poisson spent eight years as a reporter for The Toronto Star, where she demonstrated range and skill as an award-winning investigative reporter. With her colleagues, she published stories that revealed ongoing mercury poisoning in Grassy Narrows First Nation, a lack of sexual assault policies on university campuses, and the ties between former Toronto mayor Rob Ford and alleged gang members. She has reported from Egypt during the Arab Spring, and from Kenya.

Nick McCabe-Lokos is the executive producer of the podcast, returning to news after leading teams for CBC Radio shows Quirks & Quarks, q, and Day 6.

CBC is the #1 podcaster in Canada, reaching more Canadians than any other podcast publisher. With more than 20 series in genres including investigative reporting and true crime, comedy, human interest and audio fiction, CBC Podcasts are downloaded 16 million* times per month.  Recent investigative podcasts produced in partnership with CBC News include the award-winning Missing and Murdered: Finding Cleo and Uncover: Escaping NXIVM.
