permanent host, Monday to Thursday.
Northcott to join the award-winning morning audio newscast,
hosting Friday to Sunday, beginning November 26.
CBC News today announced Marcia Young and John Northcott as the new team to host the award-winning flagship morning audio newscast, CBC NEWS: WORLD REPORT.
WORLD REPORT listeners will be familiar with veteran newscaster, Marcia Young, who shifts from weekends to now hosting the program Monday through Thursday. No stranger to weekend audiences, John Northcott will step away from his anchor duties on CBC News Network to take the WORLD REPORT host chair, Friday through Sunday. Together they will deliver the morning’s top news from across the country and around the world, seven days a week, on CBC Radio, the free CBC Listen App for iOS and Android, voice activated speakers and online at cbc.ca/listen.

Marcia Young is an award-winning host whose career at CBC began in 1998 with hosting and reporting stints that brought Canadians stories from Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, Chicago, New York and most recently, Barbados, where she covered the island nation’s break from its colonial past to become a republic. She has hosted several breaking news specials including the London subway bombings, U.S. election of President Joe Biden, the death of Prince Philip, the convoy protests in Ottawa and the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. She has also developed audio specials including the story of Jamaican independence on the 50th anniversary, a country where she spent the first few years of her life.

John Northcott has spent over 30 years in journalism and is coming back to where his career began, in radio. He has covered everything from politics, crime, science and environment, gender issues, disasters, and the arts. He has lived in Tokyo, Toronto and across Ontario including London, Owen Sound and Kitchener. He’s filed from all those places and Washington, New York, India, Sri Lanka, Dubai, South Korea, Bali, and Bangkok as well. He has travelled to more than 50 countries on five continents.
“Anchoring World Report is a chance for me to speak to the audience in a different way, through the intimacy of radio,” said Northcott. “It is also a chance for me to work with a team of smart, curious journalists including the fabulous Marcia Young.”
Young takes the lead on weekdays starting immediately, and WORLD REPORT welcomes Northcott to the program beginning November 26. Former weekday host, Nil Köksal, was appointed co- host of CBC Radio’s AS IT HAPPENS when Carol Off stepped down from the program earlier this year.
