SPROAT LAKE IS DECLARED WINNER OF THE SEARCH FOR B.C.’S BEST LAKE

Audiences across the province voted for the winning lake in CBC British Columbia’s online competition

VANCOUVER – After more than 140,000 votes, Sproat Lake is the winner of The Search for B.C.’s Best Lake, CBC British Columbia’s online bracket-style competition powered by two weeks of audience participation and provincial pride.

The winner of the contest was revealed today on CBC Radio One morning shows across the province. In an immensely tight final round, Sproat Lake succeeded the other finalist, Shuswap Lake, by only 133 votes.

“B.C.'s nature is world renowned, and the Canadian public broadcaster is proud to highlight natural wonders such as our breathtaking lakes,” says Shiral Tobin, Director, Journalism and Programming CBC British Columbia. “These brackets—spearheaded by Municipal Affairs reporter Justin McElroy—connect local communities across the province in a light-hearted and engaging competition that celebrates local pride.”

After shortlisting over 20,000 lakes in B.C. to 48 contenders, provincial support for Sproat Lake has provided much needed levity from the reality of wildfires in the province.

Today, CBC British Columbia is at Sproat Lake on Vancouver Island to celebrate the news with local residents and Justin McElroy will be reporting live from the lake.
