CBC continues to step up and serve Canadians with the trusted news and information they need when it matters most, on all platforms. From Saturday, February 1 when U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods and energy were formally announced followed by the Canadian government’s response, and through many new developments including a late-day postponement on Monday, February 3, audiences have been turning to CBC News for up-to-the-minute live coverage of the latest news, information and potential impacts for Canada and communities across the country. 

CBC News Audience Highlights: 

  • 4.5 million Canadians tuned in to CBC News Network from February 1 through 3, making it the most-watched English-language Canadian news network.
  • February 1 was the highest single day for mobile CBC News and app hours since the convoy protests in Ottawa on February 19, 2022.  
  • CBCNews.ca and the CBC News app received 4 million unique visitors on February 3, the highest number since coverage of the Rogers network outage on July 8, 2022. 
  • Audiences spent more time with CBC News Network than any other news specialty channel this past weekend, and it garnered the highest average minute audience as compared to any other specialty news channel. 
  • 2 million viewers tuned in to CBC News’ flagship program THE NATIONAL on Monday, February 3, the second highest viewership this season (after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation on January 6). 
  • Average daily views on the CBC News app between February 1-3 were up 120 per cent from the daily average in January 2025. 
  • Compared to January 2025, the CBC News app saw a 32 per cent increase in average daily unique visitors between February 1-3.
