CBC and Longhope Media Inc. Announce Season 2 Premiere of You're My Hero March 14 on CBC Gem

Chris Jericho and Colin Mochrie to Guest Star

Longhope Media Inc. and CBC are happy to announce that Season 2 of the CBC Gem original comedy series You’re My Hero will launch all six episodes Friday, March 14 on CBC Gem, in honour of National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month. Season 1 is available now on CBC Gem.

Created by and starring Sean Towgood, You’re My Hero is a comedy series that shakes up the prevailing views on what it means to be living with a disability in the 21st century. The six-part, 18-minute per episode season is about Ian Fletcher (Towgood), an angsty 20-something with cerebral palsy dealing with the pressures of adult life in a world not designed for wheels.

“I wanted to write a character with a disability that reflected my experiences and that other people could look at as someone who reflected theirs.” - Sean Towgood, Creator, Writer, co- Executive Producer and Star of You’re My Hero

“Led by Sean’s sharp sense of humour and a strong ensemble cast, You’re My Hero offers a candid and funny look at navigating life with a disability. We look forward to sharing the next chapter of Ian’s journey with audiences across the country on CBC Gem.” - Trish Williams, Executive Director, Scripted Content, CBC

You’re My Hero season 2 will feature a dynamite principal cast including Sean Towgood, Vas Saranga, Tina Jung, Tara Spencer-Nairn, Ali Hassan, Cassidy Civiero, George Alevizos, Joanne Latimer, Kelsey Flower, Julie Nolke, Isabel Kanaan, and Christian Smith, with special appearances by Star Trek: Discovery’s Ronnie Rowe; nine-time wrestling world champion Chris Jericho, and Canadian comedy icon Colin Mochrie. Jung  and Spencer- Nairn were each nominated for Best Supporting Performance, Web Program or Series at the 2024 Canadian Screen Awards, for their performances in Season 1.

“What a blast we had filming season 2 of the @cbcgem series, @youre.my.hero.show starring the amazing @seantowgood! Sean is a hilarious & talented actor and a true inspiration” - Chris Jericho

Ian feels constantly bombarded by the opinions of his mother, his boss, his friends, and his support worker who dish unsolicited advice and criticism out to him - not to mention the ignorant strangers who project their preconceived notions about disability. However, criticism may be in order, as Ian realizes he might actually be that jerk sometimes. You’re My Hero continues Ian’s journey as he learns to admit his own mistakes and recognize good advice when it’s given, in order to form meaningful relationships and hold down a job…or else he may never gain the independence he so desperately seeks.

Sean Towgood is the Creator, Writer, Co-Executive Producer and Star of You’re My Hero with Executive Producers Lucy Stewart and Kevin Wallis, who also serves as showrunner and writer, Producers Meghan Hood and PJ Wilson, Associate Producer Colette Jeffs, Co- Executive Producer and writer Cassidy Civiero, and Directors Kara Harun and Greg Jeffs. For CBC, Sally Catto is General Manager, Entertainment, Factual and Sports; Trish Williams is Executive Director, Scripted Content; Sandra Picheca is Director of Current Production, Comedy; and Mélanie Lê Phan is Executive in Charge of Production, Comedy.

Sean Towgood is a Radio Broadcasting graduate from Humber College. Sean won an Emerge Media Award for the short radio documentary Stigma. He created and co-produced the audio documentaries Independence Day and Welcome To The Party for CBC’s The Doc Project; Epilogue for BBC’s Short Cuts series; and was associate producer on Equal Too (Stripped Media/Harder Than You Think). Select theatre credits include Wounded Soldiers (4th Line Theatre) and My Life on the Short Bus, a self-created solo piece (Soulo Theatre Festival). He has also contributed as a writer for the Streams and Variations podcast.
